Apartment with Computer Corner:
A desk with Seian’s computer, where he just relaxes. +1 to Mental Healing rolls.
Appearance:
It's hard to say what one might be likely to first notice about Seian. More than likely, it would depend on the situation. The one thing that won't change is the fact that he is, quite simply, extremely tall. Standing at six feet and nine inches, he towers over nearly everyone around him. One might not notice the tallness to its full extent, however, as he tends to slouch just slightly- and, in fact, it's a bit difficult for him to really stand straight to begin with, as his spine is a bit curved to one side. He's also somewhat overweight- He doesn't appear to be exceptionally obese, but some fat does hang off of his arms and legs, and he has something of a gut. He's in poor physical shape from a lifetime of overeating and little exercise.
His eyes are somewhere between green and brown, leaning more toward one or the other depending on the light. In the right light, one might say they somewhat resemble gold, but it really is quite clear that the color is within normal range. His hair is short, messy, curly, and dark brown. It never grows much longer than his ears, not matter how long he goes without cutting it, but when it's longer it becomes very messy and frizzy. He's also fair skinned, slightly pale as if he hasn't spent much time in the sun, and he wears glasses.
Personality:
Seian is a very social, intellectual but introverted and neurotic individual who greatly seeks companionship but suffers from a conditioned pessimism which leaves him suspicious of others. He wants to trust and connect with others, and can form connections very quickly, but worries a great deal about things going wrong, and is often very mistrustful and even resentful of others who hold any power over him.
Seian is used to being isolated from others, both by circumstances against his will and the nature of who he is. He strongly disagrees with many common values held by society, which in turn is intolerant of many things he considers important to himself. Though he was raised as human, he has always felt very disconnected from humanity, and by his values and interests alone he feels it's nearly impossible to ever find anywhere that he will fit in.
Seian has in the past had friends who described him as being the kindest person they ever knew. That compassion is real, and strong, and he greatly wishes to make the world better, especially for the sake of those he cares for. At the same time, the kindness he shows to his friends is mirrored just as strongly by the cruelty he is willing to show to his enemies- He is not ashamed of the contradictions within his nature, and he embraces his sadistic, predatory side fully. He generally tends more toward compassion than savagery, and is entirely willing to show that kindness to strangers, but has no pretentions of sainthood.
Seian's greatest wishes are of growth and of love, wishing to always rise up and be capable of more, and help others be more than they are as well, while also wishing to be surrounded by loved ones. As lonely as he is, connections with others are vitally important to him, though even in this there are tremendous challenges to be found. To him, love must be liberating, not restricting, and it cannot come with strings attached of one person trying to limit another's connections with other people or how they act on them. Because he so greatly values freedom, the idea of being restricted to only have a certain type of relationship with only one person is abhorrent to him, as is the idea of it happening to anyone else. The assumptions other people have in this regard are starkly discordant with his values, and he finds it painful.
Though he suffers greatly from depression and anxiety, Seian is far from being only a quivering blob of weakness. For all his pain, he maintains a razor-sharp wit, and he sees the world around him with a bright and discerning mind which is very, very much capable of learning to understand anything he needs to. His mind never rests, for better or for worse, and it is ever dedicated, even defined by defiance of everything that would take control of his life from him.
For Seian, the hero and the monster can be the same person at the same time, and that is how he views himself. His conflicted nature holds at once a brilliant and compassionate visionary, a selfish predator, and a rebel whose fire will never be extinguished. The very nature of who he is lies at odds with the world around him, and no matter what path he takes, it does not promise to be an easy one. Yet, there are any infinite number of futures which might be had, and he intends to forge his way forward no matter what anyone says.
Background
Seian was born to parents Lisa and Stephen, christened with the name Joshua. His father was a military intelligence analyst to the government, while his mother retired on disability from her job when he was a child, due to physical disabilities.
Growing up, Seian's main role model was his mother, who he spent the most time with, while his father was often at work. He had many behavioral issues as a child, as he acted like his mother, who was unstable. To explain his behavior issues, he was given a diagnosis of autism.
Seian was isolated for most of his early life, never making friends in school, and being content to spend almost all of his free time playing video games. He was in his mid teens when he first began communicating with others online, which jumpstarted his personal development.
Seian's legal coming of age was not marked with any increase of freedom for him- He had not been raised with the skills necessary to properly take care of himself. He remained living with his parents, but only a few months later, his father died in an accident. His mother was unable to take care of him, and he couldn't take care of himself, so he went to live with a family friend, a man named Malik.
Things got even more difficult from there- Malik manipulated him in numerous ways, and Seian ended up having his guardianship taken from him. There were years in which Seian had next to no freedom, and was in an intense depression, barely holding on. During this time, his mother gave in to an intense depression as well, allowing herself to die from her medical afflictions.
Eventually, Seian worked his way out from that status, and went to school, aided by money that had been left to him by his father. He began studying a degree in biochemistry, while spending some of his free time on learning computer programming.
One of Seian’s classmates, a gruff, tattooed young man Selraj, ended up becoming Seian’s friend after Seian pushed him out of the way of a moving car. At first Selraj didn’t even openly express any gratitude, but soon enough he started going out of his way to hang out with Seian.
Then, Seian found out something that changed his life forever.
Selraj asked Seian to meet him privately somewhere, and when they were alone together, Selraj started talking about things that Seian didn’t understand. During the course of this conversation, Selraj revealed to him that he was, in fact, half god, and that, incidentally, there was an entire world full of hidden supernatural creatures.
Seian listened only with confused tolerance, not at first believing Selraj’s rather strange sounding ideas, until Selraj summoned fire without the apparent use of any sort of tool. Eventually Seian was able to convince Seian that this was the truth… However, it was all completely secret.
Seian didn’t know what to make of it. He’d often felt that he was different from others, but to be told that he was half-god was simply a bit much to process. As far as he was aware, his parents were both human… Even Selraj thought this was strange, but said it probably meant that one or both of them weren’t his real parents.
Seian left that meeting feeling little more than confused and slightly sick. What did all of it mean? The idea that there was more to discover in the world that wasn’t known by the world at large was interesting, exciting even… But what did being half-god mean? He didn’t have any powers.
Seian and Selraj didn’t meet again for some time after that, and as the details of what happened faded from his memory, Seian was almost ready to think that the entire conversation was a dream… But somehow he knew it was too real to have been that, and he couldn’t forget the shock of seeing fire come from Selraj’s hand.
Then one day he was approached by a stranger, with similar markings to Selraj, who said he was here on a favor from Selraj, and they should meet privately. When Seian went to meet him, the man explained that Selraj had called in a favor, and he was going to be brought to Yomi so that he could ascend.
After realizing what this meant, and that if they were trying to hurt him he likely would not have had any defense, Seian agreed, and they went. The place they arrived at was strange, and completely unfamiliar to him, and yet it didn’t seem like a bad place to him.
He was brought to a strange, throne like device, and guided to sit upon it. From that moment, the next thing he would remember would be waking up at home, in bed.
As he awoke, the first thing he wondered was if everything he’d experienced really was a dream… But then he realized he felt different, and more alive than he’d ever felt before. And then he heard a voice, and looked toward it, and there was Selraj.
Selraj began explaining, then, how things were about to change for him...
