The timeline
Divine Blood takes place in an alternate history. There are a few major
changes. The first major change, is there is a shift from what is the
major warzone and status quo.
In the world of Divine Blood, the middle east is relatively peaceful, and
the Israel/Palastine conflict never happened. Instead, Burma became the
Empire of Myanmar, an expansoinist country filled iwth corruption, that
desires only conquest. In addition, Brazil was taken over by Neo-Nazis,
and the Warsaw pact has fallen into more chaos then in the prime
timeline, and has dark plans.
In addition, Australia is considered a world power, Africa has formed an
alliance with all countries in it, China is a generally nice place to
live and allied with these...and the United States is much the same, and
has Shandong and Okinawa as two states they control. 52nd and 51st,
respectively. Together, they form the Four Pillars of the World.
The second, and more relevant...is that humanity is not alone. Since
ancient times, God and demons have warred with each other, now in a
perpetual and surprisingly friendly cold war, thanks to a Compact between
each power. Numerous other non-human races exist, and live in peace. A
do-gooder organizatoin known as Avalon exists, and helps all they can.
Thirdly, psychics are a verified science. In fact, all magic is actually
'psychic' in nature, the ability to use one's willpower to turn thought
into action. Gods, Demons, and mortal humnas. All can use psychic powers,
fueled by their unique Life Force, to do whatever they wish. Some may
possess a natural Talent, but anyone who practices can learn. They and
the non-humans are protected by The Community.
And, finally. Robotics are...quite awesome. Uprights, giant mechanical
powere armors, exist and are used as tools for construction and war.
Cybernetic limbs are commonplace.
All in all, it is a world of adventure, where things are just on the
border of happening. And, the place where it will happen...is a mere
school.
Psychic POwers.
The casting of psychic abilities in Divine Blood is simple. It is the use
of a person's Life Force, which varies depending on what race, to cast
spells. Demons, Gods, Humans, and others...all have a life force. Life
force is the key, and the medium. Using powers causes Residusal LIfe
force, and powers that damage it are referred to as Life Force
Corruption.
Life Force is divided into three talents. Manipulative, such as the
ability to throw fireballs or otherways manipulate physical things
outside the body, Metabolic: The ability to power oneself up or others,
and Sensative, the ability to use telepathy, precognition, or other
traditional 'psychic' tricks.
Psyhich powers is further divided into Channeling, the use of quick and
dirty obviosu effectsand shaping, the use of rituals. Channeling, for
instance, would be 'shooting someone with an energy blast'. Shaping would
be 'spending three minutes to cast a spell that turns someone into a
newt.'
"Magic" in divine blood is somethign special. Hijacking the inborn
abilities of another person, allowing you to establish telepathic
contact, and use THEM to cast your spell. Howver, normal humans are nigh
impossible. BUuuut....it's easy to invade the mind of a God or a Demon.
In fact, it's possible to do it with a vivid dream!
That said, Demons and Gods have a trick...all demons or Gods have set up
their minds, so that the first hting any invader gets...is the offer of a
spell, in return for a price. Traditionally, Demons offer the rpice in
the form of 'favors', while Gods offer it in the form of knoweldge. It's
incredibly easy to get spells from an Immortal. The questoin is...can the
price be paid. (In fact, many immortals offer books!)
To get into an immortal's mind, one must simply concenrate on the
immortal, and be capable of drifting outside your own mind. THe rest is
simple. But, one must be careful. Even the weakest immortal has powerful
defenses, and the ability to ask other Immortals for aid.
Technology and Equipment.
Mundane Technology:
Other then the presence of Uprights, also known as 'giant robots', and
the use of safe nuclear power...technology in Divine Blood is comparable
to, albeit advanced, modern day equipment. Armor is better, ammo clips
and specialized ammo are easier, etc.
Furthermore, psychic power is much more useful, with Feng Shui an actual
science, and crystal talismans capable of storing magical power.
Immortal Tech.
Now this is the fun stuff. Demons and Gods both have unique technology.
Runes are non-sentient engineered Divine technology, often able to
channel energy, and not usually alive. Those that are, tend to be
stationary, large, and complex.
Demons, meanwhile, create symbiotic weapons and toools known as
Familiars, that either control the use of Life-force, or happen to have
more unique purposes. Demons can even create companions, who are sentient
companions that...tend to look rather off.
