The Easton clan, once a prestigious family dedicated to hunting the things that go bump in the night, are now obsolete. With the things they used to hunt living alongside them as equals, their methods, objectives and skills are no longer required.
Why on earth are they still raising their children in the Easton way, then? Niko was raised as a direct line descendant of the once glorious bloodline, and was thus taught how to combat the enemies that lurk in the darkness. In this day and age, however, these enemies are not enemies, and they don’t lurk in the darkness unless they need to replace a lightbulb in their home. Despite this, Niko was taught all manners of combat from a very young age so that she may uphold the bloodline. This isn’t to say that she disliked the training. It brought her closer to the comic book and video game heroes she idolized when she was off from school and training, and aside from learning how to shoot, throw a punch and swing a sword, she had a rather normal family life, with dinners, homework, TV shows to catch… but she always kept her training a secret.
She was able to maintain the masquerade, only tapping into her trained skills when she felt it was necessary, and even then she just wrote it off as karate classes. To this day, she’s beaten up a bully in middle school picking on her friends, roundhouse kicked the queen bee of her high school when she was plotting to dump goat’s blood on the unstable shy girl during prom (likely averting a massive psionic catastrophe in the process?) and has had tussles with gangs, which usually end with them broken, bruised and beaten. To date, she hasn’t had to hunt a single supernatural creature that went off the rails and started killing innocent people, but that might change soon.
Speaking of change, Niko is also the inheritor of something unusual in her family. Back in the 1800s, George Easton, one of the most skilled hunters of the bloodline, slew a therianthrope family that was terrorizing a farm. Upon tracking them back to their den, he defeated them handily, but heard a baby’s cry. He found their child, and put two and two together to figure out that the family of therianthropes were simply trying to support their child by stealing crops and cattle. Feeling immeasurable guilt for his actions, he adopted the child and hung up his sword to steer the clan in a better direction, fathering a child with his own wife and raising the two as brothers. They continued the new Easton philosophy of ‘hunt the evil’ rather than ‘hunt the abomination’, and the therianthrope child’s own bloodline placed roots into the Easton clan’s. Niko is a part of the therianthrope offshoot of the clan, and has remained unaware of it all her life. In fact, any records of the family adopting the therianthrope are long hidden, archived away in who knows where, so whenever her first shift finally happens, it’s going to take her horribly by surprise… but Niko’s a determined girl. She’ll figure it out.
As for her appearance, Niko has dyed white hair, brown eyebrows, and quite pale skin, an Easton clan trait. She has bright green eyes, and likes to wear red. She dresses as a tomboy would, wearing t-shirts, jackets, jeans and sneakers. She’s always wearing a red bandanna, which might look a little silly to others, but she thinks she looks cool. She’s got a pretty nice figure with some good curves on her, but they hide the strength, speed and stamina she earned through training.
