POWER ADVANTAGES
Emotional Link (Transmogrification; Emotional Extreme, Emotional Limits, Auto-Trigger)
AP Cost: 1
Activation: None
The extent of Alexis' Transmogrification is limited by her emotions. Alexis cannot reach the highest levels of her Transmogrification Power unless she has at least a Major Consequence or two self-induced Maneuvers related to the same emotion.
The GM can compel Alexis to cause her to use her Transmogrification Power accidentally while experiencing the connected emotion. This is rarely a dangerous activation in and of itself, though there is an increased chance of that if the emotional state is coming from a Consequence, but can cause Alexis to take unplanned Life-Force Stress as well as reveal her Talents to people around her.
Alexis gains 3 AP with which to purchase Modifiers for the linked Power Advantage that she is only able to access while experiencing the necessary emotion. Once selected, Alexis cannot change these modifiers. Alexis' use of the connected power must be related to her current emotion.
If Alexis experiencing the emotion through a Consequence, then she is prone to making mistakes in using her power. If the GM Compels Alexis to force a dangerous misuse of the Talent or Power, it is considered a Cutthroat Compel and Alexis must spend a Fate Point to refuse it.
Transmogrification (Master of the Flesh, Momentary)
AP Cost: 3
Activation Difficulty: Metabolic Difficulty 6
Activation Time: Simple Action
Duration: 1 scene, though you may undo all changes at will.
Power Type: Talent, Shapeshifting
When Alexis activate this Power, she gains a number of shapeshifting points equal to her Metabolic rank. These points may be spent as a simple action to grant Alexis immediate access to any other Advantage or Advantages. These Advantages are purchased with Alexis' shapeshifting points as if she had used Advantage Points.
The Advantage(s) gained must in some way relate to a physical change of Alexis' body.
Each time this Power is activated, Alexis may re-allocate her shapeshifting points and purchase a different Advantage or set of Advantages with them.
Alternatively, instead of selecting an Advantage, Alexis can gain a temporary persistent Aspect. Such an Aspect is considered to be worth 2 Advantage Points for the purposes of this Power.
Alexis' Metabolic is considered 2 ranks higher for the purposes of activating this Power. This does not add to the number of Advantage points that can be allocated.

APPEARANCE
Most people only see the intimidating side of Alexis. Standing at 5' 10", Alexis is covered in pearly green scales. Her face is angular and powerful, with yellow eyes, slit pupil and large canine fangs. Instead of hair, Alexis has anywhere from four to seven boa-sized serpents sprawling out from her head; these snakes generally sweep graceful down behind her back, reaching as far as her hips. Alexis is a sharp dresser, and is typically dressed in business formal when doing her job. Even Alexis' home clothes are more formal than most, all collared shirts and heels. As a gorgon, Alexis prefers business skirts to pants, for obvious reasons.
Alexis avoids expressing happiness professionally, seeing it as softness. Only Alexis' parents and a few close professional friends have seen her more beautiful gorgon side in private, where she finally relaxes and indulges in the things she loves.
PERSONALITY
Alexis is a bulldog at work, and she is prone to taking a lot of "unpaid overtime" in the form of investigation outside of her duties as an associate attorney, building up a "little black book" of sins and corruption to bring to bear against the leaders of her city once Alexis has enough experience to start her own firm. Alexis tries to control every conversation she is in, and doggedly refuses to admit defeat or weakness even when she is overcome. While her alpha-wolf attitude serves her well at work, it ruins her in casual social situations, where she can come off as awkward, rude, and unfocused.
Alexis only truly relaxes her attitude when she is at home or in private among friends, though she remains just as awkward and oblivious to social cues and flirtations. Alexis is very chatty, but tends to focus on things she's learned from law school or about her Greek and gorgon ancestry rather than friendly small talk. To help smooth things over, she usually breaks out the wine and television whenever somebody she likes visits her.
Alexis is to Greek culture and history what an otaku is to all things Japanese. She has a small collection of (presumably) nonmagical Greek antiques that she gushes over when given the chance, including a box of old jewelry she wears for luck during important cases, she has the philosophies of Socrates, Platos, and Zeno, and she likes to think that she models herself in the style of clever heroes like Hercules and Odysseus. It is actually very easy to butter Alexis up if you meet with her in private and reveal some knowledge of Greek society and culture, or offer her some small memorabilia of ancient Greece. It wouldn't be enough to shake her ethical standards, but it certainly wins the person who does so a glass of wine and half an hour to talk openly with her.
HISTORY
Alexis was born Jane Marinos, the only child of Dan and Merri Marinos. Her father was a computer technician, and her mother was a successful accountant; Alexis was not left wanting for much in their two-story slice of New York suburbia. But even at an early age, Jane Marinos had a loud mouth and opinions on everything. Without any real drive or knowledge, most of Jane's talk came down to nothing but loud complaints and internet slacktivism. As a result, Alexis made few friends, even online, and she ended up spending most of her evenings at home watching TV or browsing the internet. When Jane finally awakened her gorgon heritage in junior high, things only got worse. Her parents wanted to be as supportive as they could, and even then, knowledge about supernaturals was becoming more available, but the two humans were completely overwhelmed and terrified by their daughters sudden nightmarish appearance.
Between the double identity issues of puberty and her awakening, Alexis was a wreck, and refused to leave the house for any reason. This went on for weeks; while her parents did their best to find a "qualified" psychologist or "medusa coach" for their daughter, Jane spent all of her time curled up in front of her computer. She would go through a new website every day, looking for anything to distract her and seeking comfort from scores of "internet friends." When she wasn't on social media, Jane would binge on movies her parents rented. Coincidentally, in what was both a terrible parenting fail and a fateful moment for Jane, one of those movies happened to be Clash of the Titans, and it was the first time Jane had seen a gorgon on TV and actually recognized it for what it was supposed to be... a terrifying monster with the hideous face of death.
Naturally, Jane lost it at first, falling into a depression and sleeping through the next few days in a fitful stupor. But eventually, a grim curiosity overtook Jane. She wanted to see if the movie was real to the story of Perseus. So she went online and did some research. And she learned that yes, Medusa was a monster. But Jane also learned that Medusa was a figure with a tragic origin in mythology, and her ferocity and rage against injustice had turned the monster into a feminist icon. As Jane began to regain her sense of confidence, her interest in Medusa began to expand into other areas of Greek culture. Not just mythology, but also Greece's history, its famous philosophers and scientists, its architecture and art. Jane was even able to trace her family lineage back to what had once been ancient Thebes. As Jane finally found some solace in her appearance, her family was finally found and contacted by the Community, who were able to provide Jane with even more information about her species' past, and support her with problems that her mother and father couldn't even relate to. They even found a new school within driving distance that could cater to Jane's new quirks.
Now, some of the most common elements of Greek mythology are the tragic heroics of mortal men and demigods, and the reckless abuse of power by the gods against them. As a millennial, Jane found that this resonated with her feelings about the Civil Rights movement in America, and the struggles faced by marginalized and disempowered people in her country today. Only now Jane knew that there bigger problems than corrupt officials and corporate bureaucrats. There were actual gods, and real demons, with powers at hand that many areas of law could not even account for yet. Sure, there was some kind of "Compact," but what did that mean for those people who weren't a part of their magical system?
In college, Jane redoubled her efforts within feminist circles at first. However, she ultimately felt stymied by what she saw as ineffectiveness. Feminists campaigned and protested. They sought change through awareness and emotional appeal. But Greek heroes were clever, and figured out how to make their problems work for them. In her sophomore year, Jane switched majors into Pre-Law. Now, she has just passed her bar at Law School and been accepted as an associate attorney at a prestigious law firm. In celebration, she had her name legally changed to Alexis -- Greek for 'protector of humanity.'
If the oligarchs were going to bar themselves within law, then Alexis was going to rip the law right off their walls and beat them into submission with it.
